Uses in traditional medicine :
- Leaves boiled with lime slices are applied to cleanse the scalp and hair
- One table spoon of young fruit pulp is taken thrice a day for dysentery and diarrhoea
- Poultice prepared by young leaves and the rhizome of Alpinia calcarata is used for joint pains

Flavonoids: myricitrin, mearnsetin tamarixetin and their glycosides from leaves
Bioactivity :
Ethanol extract of leaves: antibacterial, exhibits moderate to mild toxicity towards brine shrimp; myricitrin: antoxidative
